Procedure
The procedure for leg liposuction is similar to the liposuction of other areas, with some differences. After a review of your tests, your doctor will be there to guide you through the leg liposuction procedure. Together, you will go over all the work you want to be done, and talk about your goals and expectations. The doctor will answer your questions to make sure you are comfortable.
The whole procedure is performed using the awake method. This means that with a mild oral sedative, you will be kept awake and relaxed. There is no need for general anesthesia. (2) The doctor makes the incision to insert the cannula and injects a combination of numbing agent lidocaine and a coagulant to reduce bleeding.
Stubborn fat may require additional work to sculpt your legs, but this can be done during the surgery. In some instances, patients may want to have their fat transferred or reinjected in their breasts or buttocks–areas that are affected by age and gravity. Fat transfer can give these areas enhanced curves and a youthful lift and will be done immediately to help ensure the survival of the fat cells.
Once the leg liposuction is completed, your surgeon will give you instructions on keeping the incision sites clean and what to do over the next few days. Finally, you will be driven home to rest and let the medication’s effects wear off.
Recovery
No two patients are alike. Some recover quickly, and others need a bit more downtime. The first thing that will happen after your procedure is that the anesthetic will start to wear off gradually. What follows may be a sensation of numbness and maybe slight pain. After all, you had fat tissue removed, so it is normal to feel some discomfort and puffiness. To address this discomfort, you may be prescribed some pain medication for the first few days. During your recovery, we recommend that you follow a proper diet, rich in fresh produce and lean protein. This will allow for a quicker recovery and the production of new collagen. This is the best way to have your skin look youthful and taut.
Drinking water is always important, but it is especially key to stay hydrated after surgery. This will help your system get rid of dead tissues and toxins after your fat removal procedure. You should also avoid smoking and alcohol during your recovery period. These substances can lengthen a recovery period. In many cases, tobacco’s constricting effects can reduce new blood vessels’ production and leave the treated area uneven. Alcohol can bloat the site and cause the area to lose the sculpted effect.
Within a week, the swelling will have gone down significantly. At this point, you can resume normal low-impact activities, such as walking for short distances. Still, we recommend avoiding baths, hydrogen peroxide, and cold and hot packs during your recovery.
Once your incision points have entirely closed, you can resume your normal activities. As with all surgeries, try not to overdo it at the gym after a leg liposuction treatment. Let your body tell you when the time is right, and stop activity immediately at the first feeling of pain.
Results
The results of your leg liposuction will be more shapely legs and defined curves. Leg liposuction has long-lasting results. Usually, new fat will not come back to the areas that received liposuction. It can take 3 to 6 months to see the full effects of leg liposuction. To maintain the results of your leg liposuction procedure, resume a healthy diet and exercise once you are healed and able.
Corresponding & Complementary Procedures
Brazilian Butt Lift
Outer thigh liposuction is often combined with a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL). We can use fat transfer to move fat that is taken from the legs and re-inject it into the buttocks to give them a rounder, firmer shape. Like a leg liposuction procedure, a BBL will further enhance your figure.
Tummy Tuck
A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) may complement a leg liposuction procedure because of how it can contribute to a slimmer and curvier shape. Unlike liposuction, the tummy tuck addresses loose, hanging skin as well as tightening the abdominal muscles. During this procedure, your surgeon will remove this excess skin so that your midsection appears flatter and firmer.
